Chapter 6 Parent-Preschool Interactions

While we try to teach our children all about life,
Our children teach us what life is all about.
~Angela Schwindt

The following link is about the brain develpment of preschoolers.  I think that this is a critical time during a young child's life.  Many parent do not realize how important it is to just spend time talking, reading, and playing with their young children.

This link is also a great link to read over.  It not only tells you the importance of your preschoolers self-esteem, it give you tips on how to boost their esteem.

Child nutrition is very important.  The link below is from the New York Times, and I found it interesting, as I am sure you will too.

Let Them Be Little ~ Lonestar

I can remember when you fit in the palm of my hand
Felt so good in it, no bigger than a minute
How it amazes me, you're changing with every blink
Faster than a flower blooms they grow up all too soon

So let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

I've never felt so much in one little tender touch
I live for those kisses, prayers and your wishes
Now that you're teaching me things only a child can see
Every night while we're on our knees all I ask is please

Let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

So innocent, a precious soul, you turn around
It's time to let them go

So let them be little 'cause they're only that way for a while
Give them hope, give them praise, give them love every day
Let them cry, let them giggle, let them sleep in the middle
Oh just let them be little

Let them be little

I wanted to add this additional clip because it is too cute!!

Chapter 6, Parent-Preschool Interactions is where the child’s social and emotional development begins.  It is during a child’s preschool age that children begin different development stages.  A preschooler is developing socially, emotionally, physically (gross and fine motor skills), and cognitively.  These years can be quite challenging for the parent and the child.  Parents need to take interests in their children during these years, and the best way to help their child is to spend time with them, and model the behavior they expect of their child.
I chose this chapter because I have experienced it with my children, and I experience daily because I work with preschoolers.  Preschoolers are so much fun, but they can be trying as well.  I have included internet links regarding brain development, self-esteem, and nutrition.  In my opinion, I believe that brain development and nutrition go hand in hand.  If a child is getting adequate vitamins and nutrients, then their brains will benefit more.  It is not during this time that parents need to start teaching their children how to read and write, but to teach them how to play, and socialize.  Just by playing with your child, they will learn how to count, how to sort items, how to make patterns, they will develop gross and motor skills, and many, many more skills that are life skills, not just preschool skills.
